"Forever" - In memory of Daniela Poblete
It's been a long time since the last time I posted something here....Bjorn keeps me very busy!. It's difficult to paint when you have a small baby, so I just had to relax a bit and leave my brushes in the corner for a while. Time has passed very quickly, Bjorn has grown a lot, is following a good routine and sleeps well, therefore I have some time and space to paint which makes me sooooo happy!.
A dear friend of mine, Daniela, passed away in 2004 at the age of 22. It was very sad to hear the news, she was a wonderful person, very lively and affectionate.
When she passed away I was single and had no children, maybe because of that I didn't understand (completely) the immense suffering of her parents, their loss.
I've thought a lot about Daniela and her parents since my son was born....now I understand and I'm able to feel their pain as if it was mine. By contemplating my son, I can see clearly that there is no suffering greater than the one of loosing your own child.
This painting is in memory of Daniela, she was (and still is) an angel, someone who radiated light and joy.
There was a poem that she loved:
INSTANTS (Jorge Luis Borges)

My best creation :o)))
In the picture: My little angel, Bjorn :o)))AAAAAHHHH it's been such a long time since the last time I posted something here, my apologies for this absence!.
I'd like to thank to everyone for their comments and emails, it's wonderful to see that my art reaches so many places and hearts. It's good to know that people can actually feel the good vibes and love I put on every painting.
Is not that I have run out of inspiration, nor that I'm not creating or that I have disappeared :-p The reason of this absence is first: that in June 2007 I knew I was pregnant and from that day on I went crazy doing things for my baby.
My little angel was born on the 6th of February of this year and yes....I'm 100% devoted to him and as soon as I can I'll get my brushes and will spill all the new ideas I have on my canvases...I'll need lots of them!!!!, the inspiration comes everyday, each time I look at my son, by far my best creation!!!!!!!.

An exciting journey
Acrylic on canvas, 61 x 91 cms (2006)I suddenly imagined that living on a fish would be an exciting experience... I could be in constant movement, traveling to unthinkable places...seeing colorful creatures... skyes that pass from a bright scarlet, to a deep blue, snails devouring seaweeds, evasive jellyfihes that illuminate the darkness and majestic stars floating among living particles...

The best wishes for 2007!
Snowmen by Karin MombergI made these snowmen years ago and just when whe had a blackout in the city, I lit my candles, the warm light transformed the space... I quickly gather all my little snowmen and I took the picture :o)
Personally, I don't like Christmas, all the comercial stuff, the presents and cards as an 'obligation' (because that's how it has turned in to), all the expectations that people have realtive to material things stresses me terribly.
For me, Christmas is a time for reflection, reunion, a time to share with the ones you love. Maybe many say the same, but not many put it in practice.
I'd like to wish to all of you a great Christmas, hoping that love, union and peace have an important place in your lives.
The best wishes for the new year 2007, hoping it will come full of joy and more spiritual evolution.
A big colorful hug!!!! :o)

Rag dolls I
Rag dolls by Karin MombergYear ago I had (and I still have) a friend that sewed and made lots of pretty things. I was excited to learn because I always had in mind things that I wanted to do with fabrics... specially rug dolls.
I finally decided to buy a sewing machine, I was so happy!!! :o)
My friend taught me the basics and from that day on nobody stopped me!...it was great :o)
Here I show you some of the rug dolls I made years ago.
After a while, I sold my sewing machine because I decided to travel...now that I have settled here I miss it a lot!!!. I hope to get another one very soon :o)
Hope you like the dolls!

Talks with the moon
Collage and acrylic, 24 x 20 cms, (2006)At a very early age, Carlota moved to the hidden city, where all the inhabitants were tiny.
Adults had wings that received after showing a complete purity of soul.
Only winged beings could travel and see the different planets in the solar sysem.
Carlota dreamt about meeting the moon, she was told several stories about her, that the moon was sweet and wise, that she always gave a hand.
When Carlota received her wings, she was happy, she sang and jumped of happiness. She was so euforic that almost forgot about her dream... but after a few minutes she stopped and left to find the moon....she was nervous, so long waiting for this moment...
She flew over the forests, over the lakes and sat on a star
to contemplate the moon from a distance when suddenly she heard:
'Carlotaaaaaaa'...
Who could be calling her?
She was far away from the city and there was nobody near by...
'Carlotaaaa get closer'
It was the moon calling her!!!!!
Surprised, Carlota got closer, the moon was waiting for her with open arms, she was also waiting for this encounter.
They talked for long hours, they became friends forever.
The end! :o)

The rainbow girl
Collage and acrylic on paper, 21 x 19 cms (2006)Jacinta didn't know that she had magic powers... until a special day when she went out to play.... walking and singing her own melodies....suddenly she found herself in the middle of the lake
She was able to walk on the water!....
Transparent fishes were swimming around her, talking to her. Jacinta was fascinated, she couldn't believe it and thought she was dreaming!.
The fishes asked her for a wish, they wanted more color...
Instinctively, Jacinta put her palms together and raised them up to the sky, she clapped three times and while she was opening her arms, a wonderful

Collection
Acrylic and mixed media con canvas, 25,5 x 35,5 cms (2006)Everything catches my attention, specially from the natural world , I have collected things since I was little.
I remember my room was a whirlwind, I never wanted to throw things away because everything had it's own 'story'... those beautiful times he he he.
It's been several years now that I decided to lighten my material possessions, I have got rid of so much! I have given away, sold things etc... and I don't regret it.
This painting is like remembering those years when I used to collect just for the sake of it and then looking at them once in a while because each time it was different :o)

Acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 45,5 x 61 cms (2006)Music: Minute Waltz, Chopin. Click on play to listen and enjoy.
I'm in a stage in life where everything looks different, a complex but beautiful stage. My biologic clock started to tick insistently :o)
The time has come and I want to be a mum. Like never before I have dreamt, thought and read about babies...
I want to have my own family...because when you only have your partner, you-re not yet a 'family', but when the third member arrives!.
This painting represents my wish, my dream of projecting this deep love that we both treasure with my partner. It represents my idea of 'offering' to this child that hasn't but will come very soon.

Runic Meditation

Acrylic on canvas, 20,3 x 20,3 cms/ 8 x 8 inches (2006)
The runes came to my life 15 years ago and since then I have kept them with me. I made my own set of runes with ceramic, then with wood.
I have used them as an oracle, fascinating!.
Now that I live in the land where the runes were born I have connected with them again.
About the runes:
"The Runic alphabets are a set of related alphabets using letters (known as runes), formerly used to write Germanic languages before and shortly after the Christianization of Scandinavia and the British Isles.
The earliest runic inscriptions date from ca. 150, and the alphabet was generally replaced by the Latin alphabet with Christianization, by ca. 700 in central Europe and by ca. 1400 in Scandinavia. However, the use of runes persisted for specialized purposes in Scandinavia, longest in rural Sweden until the early 20th century (used mainly for decoration as runes in Dalarna and on Runic calendars).
The earliest runic inscriptions were certainly not coherent texts of any length, but simple markings on artifacts (e.g. bracteates, combs, etc.), giving the name of either the craftsman or the proprietor, or, sometimes, remaining a linguistic mystery. Because of this, it is possible that the early runes were not so much used as a simple writing system, but rather as magical signs to be used for charms, or for divination. The name rune itself, taken to mean "secret, something hidden", seems to indicate that knowledge of the runes was originally considered esoteric, or restricted to an elite."

Gathering in the Big Blue
Arylic on canvas, 20,3 x 20,3 cms / 8 x 8 inches (2006)This is a marine mandala :o)
I was inspired by a series of BBC documentaries about life in the ocean; 'The blue planet', a wonderful production that takes the viwers to a fantastic world.
Colorful fishes swimming around here and there... dancing algae and the sun rays creating a fantasy stage.

Series: Feline Encounters
All these paintings are acrylic on canvas (2006)All cats are special and I have felt inspired by them in the last months.
A lovely cat that I know, Blanquita, is suffering from a tumor in her tummy, that made me think a lot about cat's life. I started to imagine life through their eyes.
The paintings from left to right:
- Flirt Pussy Cat : (8 x 8 inches) I was inspired in Blanquita, she´s a very sweet, feminine cat. She poses for the camera and is always waiting for someone to stroke her.
- The White Glove's Cat: (12 x 12 inches) A very elegant cat!. Many cats have fur marks that seem to be gloves or socks :o)
- I'm the Queen : (8 x 8 inches) Cats know they're very special at home, many of them live like kings and queens!, the one in this painting is a QUEEN :o)
- Cat Hallucinations : (24 x 24 inches) I still remember when I was feeding my cat (who lives now with my mum),each evening there was a special treat for her, which was a sort of concentrated fish paté... right after I opened the can, she showed up in the kitchen, smelling and savouring in advance. Her face was so funny!, that smell was driving her crazy I guess. That made me imagine her and other cats having hallucinations, lots of fishes flying around their head :o)
- Cat's Day: (8 x 8 inches) Who hasn't celebrated their cat's B'day?...or better said... their Cat's Day? :o)
- It's not my fault : (8 x 8 inches) Looking at Siamese cats I found out they have a sweet shy face.
There is a very nice poem I found:
The Kitten And The Falling Leaves
William Wordsworth (1770-1850)
That way look, my infant, lo!
What a pretty baby-show!
See the kitten on the wall,
sporting with the leaves that fall.
Withered leaves - one - two and three
from the lofty elder tree.
Though the calm and frosty air,
of this morning bright and fair.
Eddying round and round they sink,
softly, slowly; one might think.
From the motions that are made,
every little leaf conveyed
Sylph or Faery hither tending,
to this lower world descending.
Each invisible and mute,
in his wavering parachute.
But the Kitten, how she starts,
crouches, stretches, paws, and darts!
First at one, and then its fellow,
just as light and just as yellow.
There are many now - now one,
now they stop and there are none:
What intenseness of desire,
in her upward eye of fire!
With a tiger-leap half-way,
now she meets the coming prey.
lets it go as fast, and then;
Has it in her power again.
Now she works with three or four,
like an Indian conjuror;
quick as he in feats of art,
far beyond in joy of heart.
Where her antics played in the eye,
of a thousand standers-by,
clapping hands with shout and stare,
what would little Tabby care!
For the plaudits of the crowd?
Over happy to be proud,
over wealthy in the treasure
of her exceeding pleasure!

Turtle Dance

Acrylic on canvas, 30,5 x 30,5 cms / 12 x 12 inches (2006)
"Many Natives refer to North America as Turtle Island, because their legends say that when the earth was covered with water, Turtle dove to the bottom of the oceans bringing up earth on its back so that the people could have a safe and dry home.
Turtle is at home anywhere because it carries its home on its back. It does not become attached to places, for it is free to search for new opportunities wherever they may be found. When they sense danger, or are in uncomfortable and insecure settings, they withdraw into their shell, and are protected.
If you have Turtle medicine, you value both the power of the earth, the waters of the earth, and the magic of the heavens, for Turtle symbolizes both the grounding quality of earth energy, and the magic of the mystical.
Using Turtle energy can help you achieve real balance in your life and your spirit so that you don't get "stuck in the mud".
Turtle's medicine includes a connection with the center, navigation skills, patience, self-boundaries, associated with the feminine, power to heal female diseases, respecting the boundaries of others, developing new ideas, psychically protecting oneself, self-reliance, tenacity, non-violent defense."
(Julia White - 'Totem Animals')

My friend Joie, in the US, commissioned a painting using cows as a theme. I started sketching, I was very inspired, I never thought about cows!.

La Minestra della Nonna

Serie of 10 paintings, acrylic on box canvas (2005)
This serie was a commission I received from Joie, a very good friend in the US.
She wanted something unique to decorate a specific wall in her dinning room. Her house very welcoming and colorful, just like her!.
I was coming back from a long trip to Italy, so I was inspired by Italian culture.
A dinning room is a very special place within a home, where family and friends get together to share around the table.
'La minestra della nonna' means 'Grandma's soup' and it represents the warmth of a home, the warmth of a great woman who's loving and caring, who's devoted to her family and has a lovely sense of humor!.

Heaven's Abundance

Acrylic on canvas, 60 x 50 cms/ 23,5 x 19,5 inches (2005)
This is the first mandala I have painted on canvas.
The first time I heard about mandalas was in 1998, but wasn't curious enough to read more about it until 2005, when I had a beautiful dream with a mandala. After that, I bought a great book called "Mandala: Journey to the center" from Bailey Cunningham and started to make my own design, I started my own journey...
This first mandala was entitled: 'Heaven's Abundance' and it represents a personal state of deep gratitude and appreciation towards life. Lots of unexpected and fantastic things were happening to me by that time. It was like a "rebirth".
What is a mandala?
"The pattern of creation:
The word "mandala" is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Loosely translated to mean "circle," a mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself, a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.
Describing both material and non-material realities, the mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community.
"The integrated view of the world represented by the mandala, while long embraced by some Eastern religions, has now begun to emerge in Western religious and secular cultures. Awareness of the mandala may have the potential of changing how we see ourselves, our planet, and perhaps even our own life purpose."
(From Mandala: Journey to the Center, by Bailey Cunningham).

Shipping

Acrylic on box canvas, 76,5x38 cm/ 30 x 15 inches (2004)
This painting comes from one of the drawings I made in 1994. 10 years later I decided to pass it to a canvas :o) I loved the results.
I used gold leafing for the ship windows and it looks great!, difficult to see the effect on a pic though.
The image shows a ship transporting parcels across the ocean.
Orange Wisdom

Acrylic on canvas, 71 x 56 cms/ 28 x 22 inches (2004)
A girl listens to an orange bird that has landed on her green hair. The bird contains the wisdom that the blue eyed girl needs at the moment.
The orange bird represents our inner voice, which we rarely listen to.
The green hair is the connection we have with nature, we are actually part of it.
Love Meditation

Acrylic on canvas, 45,7 x 45,7 cms/ 18 x 18 inches (2004)
It was December 2004 when I started this painting and I felt it would have a special meaning, didn’t know why. I finished it on the 26th , right after the terrible tsunami in Asia. I was in shock watching the news…and then I realized that my painting was a meditation, an unconscious way to send my spiritual support and love.
* Note: This painting is sold.
A King in The Backyard
Acrylic on canvas, 40,6 x 30 cms / 16 x 12 inches (2004)I was spending some months at my sister’s when I made this painting, playing with my 4 y/o niece and, as you can tell, inspired by her unique mind :o)
This painting shows a little boy playing in the backyard, pretending he’s a king. The rainbow in the background represents the children’s world, always magic, full of color and fantasy, forbidden to break! :o)
* Note: This painting is sold.
Dove Sei?

Mixed media on canvas, 61 x 46 cms / 24 x 18 inches (2004)
I was living in Italy in 2004, and I was inspired by loads of things there.
Because I wasn’t online too often, I knew that my family and friends were wondering where I was :o)
The painting’s title is in Italian: “Dove Sei?”, that means “Where are you?”.
A colorful skirt, wacky stockings and red boots, white houses with it’s typical windows in the background represent my mood by that time…..happily exploring, learning and living nella bella Italia! :o)
I have fond memories of my time there, I met wonderful people and is absolutely a place where I want to go back in the near future!.

The Imaginary Friend

Acrylic on box canvas, 35,5 x 45,5 cms / 14 x 18 inches (2006)
A boy talks to his imaginary friend, a blue cat with yellow eyes.
My fiancé’s 11 y/o son, Scott, loves cats, but still cant have one, poor thing. He’s a very special boy, very sweet, always smiling. He’s also very creative so it wouldn’t surprise me that he has indeed an imaginary cat-friend! :o)

A Nice Day

Acrylic on box canvas, 91,5 x 91,5cms / 36 x 36 inches (2006)
This painting was a commission from a very nice lady in the South of England. She wanted to brighten her home; she wanted something colorful and cheerful.
I made several sketches using the same elements in all of them, the house, trees and stars. After a difficult decision she picked the one you see here.A house next to the trees representing the security of your own home, family and friends. The stars are the magic touch.
When I look at this painting I imagine a nice song, like the ones that make you dance and see colors everywhere! :o)
A Nice Day comes when everything runs smoothly, when you feel in peace, when you enjoy simple things everyday.

June
Acrylic on box canvas, 30,5 x 30,5cms / 12 x 12 inches (2006)On a peaceful day, a girl goes for a walk in her garden ,butterflies come to welcome her, flapping their colorful and sparkling wings.
2 weeks ago Eric, Steve and I went to visit Steve’s mum, June, to the hospice where she was spending her last days. It was the first and the last time I saw her. A sweet and creative woman whom I would have liked to meet in depth.
Butterflies are a symbol of rebirth, renewal and happiness. A reminder of how beautiful but also fragile is life itself. This painting is in memory of June.

A Girl and Her Rat

Acrylic on box canvas, 30,5 x 25,5 cms / 12 x 10 inches (2006)
A melancholic girl thinks about her pet rat, that passed away no long ago…the rat is still with her, but the girl can not see it.
I was inspired by my fiancé’s 13 y/o daughter, Jasmine, who has pet rats. She's adorable, quite a character! she has a deep love for animals and nature.
Rats itself have never inspired me really, and I have never felt keen on them…maybe a cultural thing?.
When I knew that she had pet rats my first reaction was :’Yuk!’… not that I love them now LOL, but knowing more about them, reading loads on the internet trying to find the cons of having them, I realized they are in fact harmless and very good companions for kids….although they are “high maintenance” creatures.

Home Sweet Home
Acrylic on box canvas, 61 x 61 cms / 24 x 24 inches (2006)Home is a sacred place to me, where I feel safe, in peace, where I can relax, where I can create.
A home inside a tree represents love and protection, a refuge, the perfect nest surrounded by the wonders of nature.
A generous rainbow brightens the scene and ‘wraps’ the home giving the sensation of happiness.
The stars are people, indicating that we’re never alone.

From the series: 'Feet Journey'

Feet represent movement, connection with the Earth, sense of moving forward in life. They are as well an important point of balance for our body.
How’s the world seen by our feet?...
I started to sketch a lot imagining feet in different places and situations. The ones I’ll talk about here, are the ones I have painted so far, the rest is still in my sketching book…waiting to fly to a canvas! :o)
From left to right:
Color Dreams: (Acrylic on box canvas, 30,5 x 30,5cms/ 12 x 12 inches, 2006).
Like a dream where I stand on water and I can see fishes passing by. A happy and relaxed day!.
Dry and Hot: (Acrylic on box canvas, 30,5 x 30,5cms / 12 x 12 inches, 2006).
Tanned feet standing on sand...I imagined a girl in Brazil, walking along a beautiful beach on a Summer day.
Fresh: (Acrylic on canvas, 25,4 x 25,4 cms / 10 x 10 inches, 2004).
After playing with friends at the beach, a boy goes to swim, and as soon as his feet touch the water and realizes how cold it is...he starts shaking :o)
Civilization: (Acrylic on box canvas, 30,5 x 30,5cms/ 12 x 12 inches, 2006).
I was inspired by Buddha footprints that traditionally symbolizes
the physical presence of the Enlightened One.
(I'm not Buddhist, I'm simply a passionate about culture).
